Is Financial Modelling glamorous?

Hi Danielle,

I hadn't heard of financial modelling until a couple of weeks ago when I started looking for an interesting area to improve myself in this fiscal year. I have just run the idea of booking one of your FM courses for me and some staff and just need help in answering some questions below.

'How will going on this course improve performance, on the following applications; budgeting, management accounts (report), Payroll, revenue collection, accounts payable'.

Ps. My boss thinks I am just excited by the glamorous sounding name of Financial Modelling and don't really know what it is all about. He is at least partly right i must add.

Yes, the term "Financial Modelling" has gained popularity in recent years, but it's really just another name for something that you're probably doing already (i.e. using Excel to create a flexible framework for financial calculations) Yes, I suppose it might sound glamorous (It's definitely not that glamorous though, trust me!) but it's definitely a "buzz word" right now and always looks good on your CV - don't mention THAT to your boss though!

We focus a lot on best practice in Financial Modelling in the courses, and so a model that is well built, saves a lot of time and reduces errors so I think that is the major selling point for coming on a course. So, if you are creating models (spreadsheets, if you like) in Excel, for the purpose of budgeting, management reporting, payroll etc, by following financial modelling best practice when building these, you will most certainly see the benefits in terms of time saving, few errors, better robustness and improved functionality. Hopefully you will be able to paraphrase that in your own words.

Let me know if you need any other information, and I hope to see you either virtually or in real life in a course soon!

Danielle.
